Gear Brooks Burn 3 A Ride That Glides

My oldest son has been a fan of Brooks running shoes for some time now.  He has used Brooks training shoes, cross country spikes and track spikes.  He loves them because they are both incredibly light and have an unmatched ride.  I've also been a fan of Brooks' hyper light road racing shoes for use in triathlons, especially the Racer ST 3.  Like many other Brooks running shoes, they are incredibly light with plenty of cushion for a super ride.  Other racing flats I've tried are too thin at the forefoot which results in stone bruises to the ball of my foot.  I haven't switched brands of training shoes though for almost 4 years due to fear of injury.  However, after my recent problems with the Nike Airmax 360s, I decided to give Brooks a try at everyday use.  I picked the Burn 3s because I love lightweight shoes and I am a biomechanically efficient runner with a high arch.

I've now been running in the Burn 3s for over a month.  During the first 2 - 3 weeks, I had some days with minor aches and pains in my upper Achilles, my knees and a couple of other places, but the ride of the shoes is so incredible, that I stuck with them.  Over the last two weeks, I am experiencing nothing but an unbelievably smooth and comfortable ride in a pair of lightweight shoes.  While I don't care for the look of the shoes (a little too much orange), the ride is so good that they give me a new motivation to hit the streets.  If you are looking to smooth out your runs, then I recommend trying a pair of Brooks running shoes.  You can access its web site with the link on the right and use its shoe advisor to determine the best shoe for you.  Brooks describes the Burn 3s as follows:

Brooks Burn 3 – MSRP $85.00

Get ready for a heat wave. The new Burn 3 is a durable, lightweight trainer with a miraculous balance of speed, performance and cushioning. It feels as good as it looks, with a new i-257 midsole, injection-molded to minimize weight and maximize flexibility. Shock-absorbing HydroFlow® units cushion the heel and forefoot. Ideal for biomechanically efficient runners, the Burn 3 is designed to light up daily runs, speed workouts or tempo runs.

Burn 3 Technology

DRB Accel™

To promote natural movement between the heel and forefoot, Brooks developed the DRB Accel™. This component utilizes varying durometers of thermoplastics which provide the torsional midfoot support runners need.

High Performance Rubber

HPR is a super-durable rubber compound developed specifically by Brooks. This rubber provides greater resistance to high wear areas of the outsole, such as the heel, increasing the life of the shoe.

HydroFlow®

Brooks' patented, silicon-based system is the most unique and effective cushioning system ever applied to a running shoe. Its fluid-filled center chamber dampens shock at impact and dynamically disperses fluid at a controlled rate around the heel cushioning, stabilizing and rebounding on every stride. Plus, it's engineered to never wear out.

Podular Technology®

Brooks' patented Podular Midsole/Outsole configurations, MC-Pod, Stable-Pod, Hyper-Pod and Cush-Pod, are engineered to specifically meet the different types of runner's needs. By anatomically engineering a system of "pods" into the midsole and outsole around bio-mechanically correct flex grooves it enables the shoe to bend and flex more naturally while still supporting the foot at its most critical points.

Substance 257™

This unique midsole compound is formulated to resist compression and rebound more quickly after impact than standard EVAs used in other brands. S-257 has been tested to be 15% more durable than EVA, which means your 400th mile has the same great ride as your first.
