Gear Barracuda B300 B300

The B300s are part of Barracuda's line of positive pressure swim goggles. The concept uses closed-cell foam to seal against the skin without suction, resulting in a more comfortable goggle. Since Barracuda retailers claim the B300 is "very popular with triathletes", I decided to give them a try.  Please note, though, that I prefer swim masks to goggles due to increased peripheral vision.

As goggles go, the B300s are very comfortable with unsurpassed optics and outstanding quality.  They also come with a screwdriver for adjusting small setscrews that adjust the width of the nose bridge, which I found to be a classy touch.  The large foam eyepieces, though, must be wet in order to seal against your skin.  If they’re not, the B300s will leak. Additionally, those same large pieces of foam, while comfortable and usually providing a seal, limit your peripheral vision.

The head straps are very long and both ends come out of one side of the goggles (see picture) rather than adjusting on each side independently. The result can be too much strap sticking out from the goggles, forcing you to tuck it in or have it flap against the side of your head while swimming. The easy solution to this for all but those of us with the most massive craniums would be to adjust them and then cut off the excess.

Kevin, who prefers goggles to swim masks, very favorably reviewed Barracuda’s Ultimate goggles without commenting on reduced peripheral vision, finicky sealing or overly long straps.  As a result, I would think most people would prefer the Ultimate to the B300s - I’m fairly sure I would.
